ERIN at Bureautec Followup

Internet Security the focus at Bureautec

Luxembourg Business - November 1997

One of the highlights of the recent Bureautec 97 trade fair at the FIL Exhibition complex from October 21 to 25 was a presentation by the specialist Luxembourg- based Internet Solutions firm ERIN on Internet Security, held at the Luxembourg P&T Stand on October 24.

ERIN specializes in integrating business solutions utilizing Internet and related technologies, working with dynamic organizations in utilizing this technology to increase their business efficiency and competitive edge. It is in this respect that the P&T invited ERIN to present secure Internet solutions at its stand at Bureautec.

ERIN Sales Manager Mr. Ren KOOYMAN introduced the two speakers, Geert Busse, a sales engineer with Consol, a distributor of Raptor Systems products in Belgium, and Gerry Mellet, the London-based European marketing manager for the Connect product family from Sterling Commerce.

Busse presented Raptor Systems comprehensive suite of security solutions, including the market-leading Raptor Eagle Firewall product. Raptor solutions offer site-wide security, covering the five domains of:

  • Perimeter Security, using the Raptor Eagle NT Firewall;
  • NT-LAN Protection, restricting LAN access to authorized users;
  • Mobile and Desktop Security with encrypted access control;
  • Remote Site Security, providing branch office and division security;
  • Security Integration, managing company-wide network security as a single integrated system.

Busse said that Raptor Systems products protected corporate Internet/Intranet sites from external attack, while providing access for authorized. The highest level of protection is obtained through Raptors unique security-proxy-based architecture.

Via so-called virtual private networks (VPNs), included with the Eagle NT, sensitive information can safely be sent across the Internet. VPNs are encrypted tunnels which can be configured between remote sites or portable PCs to the corporate offices.

The Eagle also detect and shut down unauthorized processes on the firewall machine, thus securing it against attack. Attempts to penetrate the network can be discovered by the firewall through the monitoring of suspicious activity.

Another feature is control of access to the Internet from network workstations, limiting access to those sites of relevance to a companys operations.

Raptors products are well known for ease of installation and configuration, and the Eagle is the market-leader in NT firewall solutions, with a rapidly-growing client base in Luxembourg.

Mellet presented Sterling Commerces security solutions within its Enterprise Data Exchange (EDX) framework, concentrating on three areas:

  • The current state of play in the industry.
  • the companys philosophy on building secure products,
  • Sterling Commerces CONNECT:Conceal product range.
    CONNECT:Conceal represents the next generation of encryption-enabling technology in its just-in-time approach to cryptographic key generation which will utililize the latest elliptic curve technology, combining that with a system of roles-based access and authorization.

This technology is designed to simplify the deployment, management, and administration of corporate data, whether in situ or in transit across trusted or untrusted networks, without any loss of security. In fact Sterling claims that security is actually enhanced since at no time are any session keys exchanged between sender and receiver.

The afternoons programme ended with a draw for the two winners of the Irish Whiskey competition, Jean-Yves DUPUIS of Ambrasoft, and Viviane and Jeannot Schmit-Maes.
